Fadsedit
From EGM NGR
While the forums are known to take part in and create several Internet memes, the most notable fad is the Brian Peppers fad, sometimes natively referred to as The Gurg, or Gurgazoid. NGR is currently credited with the earliest verified posting of Brian Peppers thanks to PaulGonza, despite multiple Peppers fan sites noting in majority other message boards for the discovery, though NGR predates all other known dated mentions of Peppers by 3 days to 2 weeks.
NGR is also known for various common trends:
- Acronyms: Various acronyms have been created or adopted by EGM NGR posters, usually including a humorous phrase. "QFT (Quoted For Truth)", "EFDIS (Every Fucking Day, I Swear)", "FTW (For The Win)", and "TTIWWP (This Thread Is Worthless Without Pics)" are common NGR acronyms.
- Appreciation Threads: Made with an "Official" moniker and ranging in subjects from other posters to pop culture icons in film, food, television or music.
- Favorite Late Night Talk Show Host: Typically in response to what has been deemed an overly idiotic or controversial thread, a poster states that "I must say that (insert host name) is my favorite late night host.", without regards to the actual topic of discussion.
- IGNLION: Unofficially retired by posters due to negative backlash in response to an overabundance, threads are created with titles declaring events that would be considered important to posters. Inside, however, would contain only an animated image of several people in a Japanese-looking lion costume, upon which posters would understand they had been tricked.1
- Parody Threads: In a typical chain reaction, one thread's title and possibly content is near duplicated as a joke, followed by several more threads over the course of several hours. Examples have included threads titled similarly to "I cut myself today", "Poster rates you: (Various) Edition" (in which the creator of the thread inserted their own name and subject in which to compare other posters to, such as characters of Pokémon and items of food), Appreciation threads for other posters as noted above, as well as several smaller outbreaks of parody threads.
- Pop vs. Soda: Sometimes, a poster will call pop the incorrect term, soda. At this point, several "pop-sayers" will usually reply stating "it's pop" or something to that effect. "Sodabitches" will retaliate in like. Tension mounts and this often ends in a jumble mess of a thread that has nothing to do with the original topic. The user 'Ragingbegal' has a sig that says "Not being a sodabitch: My Anti-Drug" that comments on this frequent occurance.
- Random Pictures: Usually when one or more of the regulars finds a thread uninteresting they post random, and humorous, pictures of many things. Some of these things include 'Horseman', 'IGNLION', 'Masturating Kitty', 'Jabbadabutt', Pictures of user Lucky Kitten, and 'Masturating cowboys'.
- Sport Seasons: Created at the beginning of any major league sports season, all posts about the sport over the course of the season are made within.
- Versus Threads: The posting of two things and asking which one the users like more.
- Would You Hit It?: Comprising of images several people, posters are asked whether they would have sex with the subjects of the images. Such as any member of the popular tv show The Golden Girls. Various editions have been created for specific attributes or groups and ethnicities of men or women, or as jokes such as "Handicapped Edition", an edition questioning whether posters would collide with pictured automobiles, or whether they would shoot Harry Wittington.
NGR is also known for "beating the dead horse", or taking part in internet memes to the point that it starts to get very annoying to many users.
